Greyhounds charge through jamboree

SULPHUR — The Welsh Greyhounds wasted no time in taking charge in their battle with the St. Louis Saints here Friday night in the finale of the Sulphur Jamboree. The Hounds scored the first two times they had the pigskin and then added two more scores on their way to a 26-0 whitewashing of the Saints. Welsh was extremely effective on both sides of the ball, as they totaled 332 yards of offense and 15 first downs, while limiting the Saints to just 46 yards of offense and two first downs.

Tigers stave off Hornets 21-14 in jamboree action

SULPHUR — The Lake Arthur Tigers closed out their preseason slate Friday night by competing at the Sulphur Jamboree at Matt Walker Stadium against former district mate Grand Lake. The Tigers used a strong outing and fended off a late Hornet drive to claim a 21-14 win in the abbreviated game. The two teams played a pair of 15-minute quarters in the contest, with the Tigers finding the endzone three times. The Lake Arthur defense came up with a huge stop at the end of the contest as Grand Lake had the football in the red zone but the Tigers came with a stop on downs with just 10 seconds left to play.

American Legion kicks off scholarship contest

Parish high school students who attend Jennings High School and Hathaway High School, as well as those enrolled in homeschool programs, are being sought for the American Legion Oratorical Contest.

Car show joins warrior cookoff to support local veterans

The Southwest Louisiana Ancillary Committee is hosting its 3rd Annual Warrior Cook-off benefiting the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home and Cemetery starting at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 14.

Local housing authority audit released

A recent audit of the Housing Authority of Jennings revealed healthy finances and only one minor finding for not providing the proper cyber security in place.
