Cowboys’ Gregory sidelined as latest with calf strain

FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Dallas defensive end Randy Gregory will miss multiple weeks after straining a calf in practice, making him the third Cowboys player to miss time with the injury.

Brown carries Louisiana-Lafayette past West Florida 81-47

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Jordan Brown registered 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks as Louisiana-Lafayette rolled past West Florida 81-47 on Tuesday night.

Kobe Julien had 12 points and three blocks for Louisiana-Lafayette (1-0). Kentrell Garnett added 10 points. Theo Akwuba had eight rebounds.

Darrin Jenkins had 10 points for the Argonauts. Daniel Sofield added six rebounds. David Petit-Homme had seven rebounds.

CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) — Baseball’s most influential agent said the sport was the victim of a “competitive cancer” caused by teams unloading veterans to accumulate draft picks and said the Atlanta Braves’ World Series title was a direct result of others’ tanking.

Speaking Wednesday at the general managers’ meetings, Scott Boras backed the demands of the players’ association for changes in the collective bargaining agreement that expires Dec. 1. The sport is braced for a lockout that would be baseball’s ninth work stoppage but first since 1995.

Chiefs appear open to adding Beckham to wide receiver group

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs coach Andy Reid wouldn’t say Wednesday whether the reigning AFC champs were pursuing Odell Beckham Jr.

Then again, he didn’t say they weren’t.

Beckham became a free agent Tuesday after the wide receiver’s acrimonious split with the Browns, and the Chiefs — with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes — are among the destinations that he’s rumored to be considering.

Hounds to face Hurricanes Friday night

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds will travel and travel and travel as they enter the bi-district round of the class 2-A playoffs for non-select schools. Welsh will relocate to South Plaquemines High School Friday night, which can be found not far from Port Sulphur, about one hour south of New Orleans. In the final standings following an appeal by class 3-A Booker T. Washington, the Greyhounds are seeded number 19 and South Plaquemines earned the number 14 position.

Iota Bulldogs to face Brusly in first round of playoffs

IOTA – The 2021 LHSAA football playoffs begin this week, and the Iota Bulldogs have a chance to extend their season once again. This marks the fifth year in a row the Bulldogs have earned one of the available 32 spots in class 3A.

Since 2017 the Bulldogs are 5-4 in the playoffs under head coach Josh Andrus with its best finish coming in 2018 as a semi-finalist. Iota comes in as the #19 seed and will travel an hour and a half east to #14 seed Brusly.

Hounds fall to LCA in finale, 49-13

LAFAYETTE — The Welsh Greyhounds closed out the regular season of play on the gridiron here Friday night with a 49-13 loss to Lafayette Christian Academy. Welsh ends the regular season with a 6-4 overall mark and a 2-2 District 4-2A record. The Greyhounds are currently seeded number 19 in the state playoffs involving class 2-A non-select schools.

Iota thrashes Mamou 63-36

IOTA — An early Bulldog turnover and slow start kept it interesting, but the Iota Bulldogs scored at will to take the season finale over the Mamou Green Demons 63-36.

“I thought we were the more physical team tonight, picked up some big runs” said Iota Coach Josh Andrus. “They (Mamou) were playing a lot of man-to-man, so we set up in some tight formations and confused them a little bit. We were able to cross them up a few times and score some touchdowns off it.”
