Lady Cards blast Bell City 62-36

LACASSINE - The No.6 Lacassine Lady Cardinals celebrated Homecoming and opened district playwith a huge, 62-36 win over rival Bell City from John Juneau Gymnasium Friday night. The Lady Cards broke open a tight first quarter, and used a balanced scoring attack to earn the resounding victory, and more importantly open the district slate with a win.

Petty, No. 18 Alabama rain in 3s, beat LSU 105-75

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Alabama coach Nate Oats was concerned his team might lose its sense of urgency when it took the court as a member of the AP Top 25 for the first time in three seasons.

John Petty quickly calmed his coach down.

Petty made four 3-pointers before four minutes had elapsed, finishing with 24 points on eight 3s, and the 18thranked Crimson Tide set a Southeastern Conference record by making 23 shots from beyond the arc in a 105-75 rout of LSU on Tuesday night.

Hornets rain 3’s in 63-45 win over Midland

HATHAWAY - Noah Guidry knocked down five shots from beyond the arc and poured in a game-high 23 points Friday to help lead Class B’s No. 2-ranked Hathaway Hornets to a 63-45 District 7-B victory over the Midland Rebels.

The Hornets, who improved to 16-4 overall and 1-1 in league play, hit nine long balls on the night, including seven in the first half as they bolted out to a 41-17 lead at the break.

The onslaught began early with the Hornets going on a 16-2 run over the first six minutes of the opening frame.

Lions agree to terms with Saints’ Dan Campbell to be coach

(AP) - The Detroit Lions have agreed to terms with Dan Campbell to be their coach.

The Lions announced the agreement with the New Orleans Saints tight ends coach on Wednesday, one day after formally introducing Brad Holmes as their general manager.

Falcons name Saints’ Terry Fontenot as general manager

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday named Terry Fontenot the team’s first Black general manager, and team owner Arthur Blank said it’s the kind of hire that will eventually also create more opportunities for NFL minority coaches.

The 40-year-old Fontenot joins Atlanta following 18 seasons with NFC South rival New Orleans.

Strong fourth quarter propels Lady Dogs to 49-42 win over Iowa

IOWA - The No. 7 Jennings Lady Bulldogs went on the road Friday night and pulled out a tough district 4-3A win over the Iowa Lady Yellow Jackets by a count of 49-42. The Lady Dogs broke open a 37-37 tie to start the fourth quarter, and outran their way to the seven-point win. The victory upped the Lady Dogs overall mark to 15-4, 1-1 in league play. The Lady Dogs were back on the road Tuesday night to face the Elton Lady Indians, a fill in game due to Lake Charles College Prep dealing with Covid-19 issues.

Hounds hang on for 39-37 win over Elizabeth

ELIZABETH - The Welsh Greyhounds stepped out of district 6-2A play last Thursday night and pulled out tight, 39-37 win over the Elizabeth Bulldogs. The Hounds used a stifling second-half defense, and overcame a halftime deficit to earn the hard-fought win. Welsh upped their overall record to 5-10 with the victory.

LADY TIGERS CLAIM BATTLE OF NO. 1’S

LAFAYETTE - The No. 1 Class 2A Lake Arthur Lady Tigers and Division III No.1 Lafayette Christian Academy Lady Knights (LCA) opened district 6-2A action in one of the premier games in all of South Louisiana. After dropping both contests to LCA last season, the Lady Tigers claimed a little revenge with a 58-48 win on the road. The Lady Tigers used a hot start in the first half to build a 28-18 halftime advantage, then fended off a Lady Knight rally in the fourth by knocking down 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. In addition, Lady Tigers’ Head Coach Vickie Sketoe mentioned her team’s condition in the back-half of the second and fourth quarters as instrumental.

Blue Collar Cardinals rally for 6-B win over Bell City

LACASSINE - The Lacassine Cardinals used a big second-half surge and the sharp shooting of Aaron Garcia to claim a 60-53 win over the Bell City Bruins Friday night on Homecoming at John Juneau Gymnasium. Garcia knocked down six 3-pointers in the win, and finished with a game high 26 points to help the Cards improve to 11-6 overall, 1-1 in 6-B play. Lacassine overcame a 32-25 point deficit at the break, but shot the basketball well from longrange by drilling nine trifecta’s in the contest.
