REEVES — The Lacassine High School Red Cardinals hit the road Friday night to face the Reeves High School Raiders. The Cards claimed the victory after a strong second half push picking up an 18-point victory over the Raiders with a final score of 76-58. The win brings the Cards up to 26-1 while the Raiders drop 9-11.
LAKE ARTHUR — It was a battle of the Tigers Thursday night as the Lake Arthur High Tigers hosted the Oberlin High Tigers in a non-district competition at Nooky Moore Gymnasium. In an overwhelming sweep, the Lake Arthur Tigers dominated the hardwood for the entirety of the game and secured the win with a final score of 91-25.
OXFORD, Miss. — Mikaylah Williams paced LSU with 20 points to lead the Tigers to a win in their first road SEC game of the year at Ole Miss, 84-73, in the SJB Pavilion saw a record 9,074 on hand at Sunday’s game.
WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds claimed a big Jeff Davis Parish win Thursday night when they took down the Jennings Bulldogs by a final of 67-58 a t Greyhound Gymnasium. The Hounds moved to 8-8 overall on the season with the win, while the Bulldogs dropped to 10-5 with the loss. The Hounds were trailing heading into the final stanza of play, however the hosts outscored Jennings 26-15 down the stretch to give themselves a nine-point win. J.J. Artis had the hot hand for the Hounds Thursday night, as he poured in a gamehigh 24 points on the night.
The Jennings Lady Bulldogs ended their three-game losing streak with a 51-29 road win over the parish rival Welsh Lady Greyhounds Thursday night. Welsh led 2-0, then tied it 6 all in the 1st period. Jennings would steadily pull ahead and lead 28-16 at half. Jennings would outscore the Lady Hounds 23 -11 in the second half to take their 51-29 win.
LAKE ARTHUR — The No. 3-ranked Lake Arthur Lady Tigers picked up a big win over 5A Sulphur Tuesday night at “Nookie” Moore Gymnasium by a final of 48-34. The win improved the Lady Tigers to 16-4 overall, while Sulphur fell to 10-10 on the season. Trailing 21-19 at the half, Lake Arthur rallied to outscore the Lady Tors 29-11 over the final two periods to claim the win. Vivian Sketoe continued to torch this nets, this time leading the charge with her 18 points. The Lady Tigers will be back in action tonight when they welcome in the Erath Lady Bobcats for a nondistrict showdown.
The Jennings Bulldogs basketball team hosted Class 1A power North Central in their first game of the 2024 year. The Dogs would take an 11-3 lead in the first period, but the Canes would battle back for a 23-20 lead in the second period. The Dogs would go into halftime leading 29-23 and then outscore the Canes 41-26 in the second half to take a 70-49 win.
BATON ROUGE — No. 7 LSU is set to begin SEC play tonight at 8 p.m. CT in the PMAC when it hosts Missouri on the SEC Network for the first game of the new year.
