WELSH — Friday night the Welsh High Greyhounds (12-7) hosted the DeQuincy High Tigers (3-14) for a District V match. The action-packed basketball game kept the fans on their toes as the ball flew up down the court all night. The Greyhounds would be the winner when the fourth quarter buzzer sounded indicating the end of the game. The Hounds’ hustle would pay off as they cinched the District game win by a score of 77-60 moving them to 2-0.

WELSH — The Welsh Greyhounds used a ferocious first half of basketball here Wednesday night at Greyhound Gymnasium, and ultimately claimed a 69-41 win over the East Beauregard Trojans. The non-district victory moved the Hounds to 11-7 overall, good enough for seventh in the Division IV Non-Select power ratings. The Hounds used a big night from DeAndre Soulaire, who poured in a gamehigh 18 points in the win. Welsh placed 10 players total in the scoring column in the win, with Sean Dugas also hitting for 10 points to join Soulaire in the double digit category.

LACASSINE — The Lacassine Cardinals continued their impressive season by opening district play with a 67-45 beating of the ESA Falcons at Juneau Gymnasium. The win moved the No. 6 Cardinals to 19-9 overall on the season, 1-0 in league play. In what was a close game at the half, the Cards outscored the Falcons 36-22 in the second half to earn the 22-point victory. Kane Broussard led the scoring charge for the Cardinals by pouring in 20 points. Gavin Moore and Aaron Garcia would also hit for double figures for Lacassine in the win.

GRAND LAKE — The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers picked up a district-opening win Thursday night by taking down the Grand Lake Lady Hornets by a final of 58-32. The win moved the Lady Tigers to 10-10 overall, 1-0 in district play. Lake Arthur rode the big night of Vivian Sketoe to their tenth win of the season, as the junior guard poured in 25 points in the contest.

District rival Westlake sweeps pair from Jennings

The Jennings boys and girls basketball team hosted district rival Westlake Tuesday night. The Lady Rams trailed by 9 in the 3rd period but was able to tie the game at the end of regulation play and would hit a trey at the buzzer to take a 34-31 overtime win. In the boys game, the Rams lead 48-24 early in the 4th period, but the Dogs would play hard and fall to the Rams 54-42.

HHS ladies top Lady Bulldogs, 56-41

HATHAWAY — The Hathaway High Lady Hornets (20-4) hosted the J.S. Clark Leadership Academy (JSCLA) Lady Bulldogs (18-4) Tuesday night in a district opener. The Lady Hornets maintained a rigorous momentum in the fast-paced game for the 56-41 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

CROWLEY – The Lake Arthur Tigers made the short journey over to Crowley to open league play against the Notre Dame Pioneers. The Tigers avenged an earlier loss to the Pios this season by throttling their guests 50-34. The win moved Lake Arthur to 6-7 overall, 1-0 in district action. After trailing early in the contest, Lake Arthur rallied back over the final three periods of play to put an exclamation point on their league opener.
