Indians drop contest to David Thibodeaux, 48-40

ELTON — The Elton High Indians hosted the David Thibodeaux (DTSMA) Bulldogs for a non-district competition Tuesday night at Ortis Guidry Gymnasium. The Indians started strong and led by 10 at halftime. However, a strong second half push from the Bulldogs kept the Indians from maintaining their lead. The Indians fall to 15-10 and the Bulldogs move to 15-7.

Sanchez’s 41 lifts Lady Hornets over Lacassine, 67-40

HATHAWAY — The Hathaway Lady Hornets continued to roll on Tuesday as the blew past the Lacassine Lady Cardinals by a final of 67-40 at Charles F. Groth Gymnasium. The Lady Hornets rode the huge night of senior Lamiyah Sanchez to victory in a game where she knocked down a staggering 12 3-pointers and collected 41 points. The win lifts the Lady Hornets to 23-4 overall, 3-0 in league play, while the Lady Cards fall to 17-11 overall, 0-2 in league action.

Lake Arthur, Welsh split pair in district matchups

LAKE ARTHUR — The Lake Arthur boys and girls basketball teams hosted their parish rivals Welsh Tuesday night in district games. In the girls game, the Lady Hounds led 12-10 after the first period, but the Lady Tigers would then roll on to a 63-27 win. The boys game was a battle for fist place in district 5-2A. The Greyhounds and Tigers battled for eight lead changes and three ties. Lake Arthur led 30-27 at half, but the Hounds would outscore the Tigers 34-22 in the second half to win 61-52.

No. 6 Lacassine blows out Hornets, 87-41

HATHAWAY — The No. 6 Lacassine Cardinals picked up a big win over parish and district rival Hathaway Tuesday night at Charles F. Groth Gymnasium by a final of 87-41. The win ups the Cardinals record to a sparkling 21-9 overall, while the Hornets fell to 5-19 with the loss. The Cards rode the hot hand of senior guard Aaron Garcia in Tuesday’s win as the senior poured in 31 points in leading his team to victory. Lacassine also placed four players in double figures in the win.

No Brady or Rodgers, no problem for NFL in divisional round

(AP) — For the first time in 13 years, neither Tom Brady nor Aaron Rodgers reached the divisional round of the playoffs. No problem. The NFL still has plenty of exciting football this weekend featuring Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Dak Prescott and many other stars. The action kicks off Saturday with the Jacksonville Jaguars visiting the Kansas City Chiefs. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson faces his mentor, Chiefs coach Andy Reid. Pederson played for Reid and coached under him in Philadelphia and Kansas City. He also beat him to a Lombardi Trophy. The No. 1 seed Chiefs are coming off a bye and aiming for their fifth straight trip to the AFC championship game.
