Tigers move to .500 with lopsided win over DeQuincy

LAKE ARTHUR — It was a battle of the Tigers Friday night at ‘Nooky’ Moore Gymnasium as Lake Arthur High (8-8) hosted DeQuincy High (3-16) in district play. The Lake Arthur Tigers dominated the competition from start to finish collecting the 63-36 win over DeQuincy.

No. 5 Indians smash East Beau, 68-54

ELTON — The Division IV No. 5 ranked Elton High Indians hosted the East Beauregard High Trojans in the first district game of the season Friday night. The Indians led the game from start to finish and left the court with a 14-point advantage for the 68-54 win. The win moves the Indians to 16-10, 1-0 and the Trojans fall to 1-20, 0-1.

Lady Hornets win huge showdown with Bell City, 59-42

IOWA – The Hathaway Lady Hornets took firm control of district play Monday night by pulling away from the Bell City Bruins by a final of 59-42. The Bruins have handed the Hornets one of their four losses on the season, but Hathaway was quick to return the favor played at Iowa High School. Despite trailing 23-19 at the half, the Lady Hornets rallied for a pair of 20-point periods in the second half to ultimately claim the 17-point win. Freshman Sienna Guidry had the hot hand for the Lady Hornets in the top-10 clash, pumping in 22 points on six 3-point bombs. With the win, Hathaway improves to 24-4 overall, 4-0 in league contests, while the Bruins dropped to 18-6 overall, 1-3 in the district standings.

The Welsh boys and girls basketball team hosted the Vinton Lions in district competition Friday night. The girls game was tied 28 all entering the 4th period, and the Lady Hounds would outscore the Lady Lions 20 to 9 to get the 48-37 victory. In the boys’ game, Welsh had a 52-36 lead in the 4th period. Vinton would rally with a 14-point run, but the Hounds would hold on to win 65-60 and maintain their sole possession of 1st place in district 5-2A.
