TEXAS PACIFIC TRAIN ROBBED

1916, Mail car on Texas & Pacific train enroute from New Orleans to Fort Worth was entered by a lone masked man shortly after 10 o’clock last night as the train was leaving Grand Cane. The robber, at the point of a pistol, placed empty mail sacks over the heads of the postal clerks after which he leisurly rifled the registered mail in the car.

SHERIFF-ELECT J.F. FUSELIER VISITS JENNINGS

Sheriff-Elect J.F. Fuselier of Jefferson Davis parish, arrived in town this morning from his home near Elton, and spent several hours here mingling with friends and acquaintances and looking over the temporary court house of the new parish.

The voters of Jefferson Davis Parish went to the polls December 17, 1912 and selected the first set of public officials to guide the destinies of the new parish for the term beginning January 1, 1913, and ending in 1916. First elected officials of Jefferson Davis parish were:

Officers take oath of office. Sheriff, clerk of court, assessor, members of the school board, constable, justice of the peach, coroner, representative and other parish officials elected in Jefferson Davis parish yesterday will take the oath of office and assume the duties of their respective offices on the 1st day of January 1913 and serve for four year term ending in the year 1916.

Sheriff Fuselier Makes Capture Of alleged horse theif

Sheriff Joseph F. Fuselier last night affected the capture of a young white man named Felix Treem, who it is allegedly wanted by sheriff Adam Morton of Vermilion parish on a charge of horse theft.

The arrest was made on information sent out by the Vermilion Parish authorities asking Sheriff. Fuselier to be on the lookout for the alleged horse thieves who had made their escape from the parish prison at Abbeville recently.

K. OF C. 15TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED

1934 - The 15th anniversary of the establishment of the order of Knights of Columbus in Jennings and local members and friends will celebrate with a banquet at the lodge home, above Robert’s store tonight.

MEETING TO BE HELD IN OBERLIN ON IRRIGATION PROJECT

1934 - A big mass meeting will be held at Oberlin at 3 p. m. Monday by farmers from Jeff Davis, Allen, Beauregard and Evangeline parishes to push plans for the big irrigation association which will give a guaranteed supply of fresh water at all times. Farmers of these parishes are seeking to fulfill this project’s aim of providing fresh water for this section at all times of the year to make rice farming safe from the dangers of salt water which annually besets them.

1942 - By September 10 every service establishment covered by regulation No. 165 is expected to have turned in a statement of its prices to the Jeff Davis Parish War Price and Rationing Board. All must report to the Court House in Jennings, according to an announcement by Earl C. Miller, Chairman of the local board.
