Eighteen people were booked into the parish jail by the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office over the past week.

Friday, June 28

Christopher Lee Higginbotham, 37, of Eunice, was arrested on an outside agency warrant and charged with possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance.

Saturday, June 29

Elias LLoyd Miller, 30, of Kinder, was charged with domestic abuse battery.

Manson Joseph Adams, 36, of Jennings, was charged with violation of protective orders and domestic abuse battery with child endangerment.

Trump calls America’s story ‘the greatest political journey’

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump celebrated the story of America as “the greatest political journey in human history” in a Fourth of July commemoration before a soggy but cheering crowd of spectators, many of them invited, on the grounds of the Lincoln Memorial. Supporters welcomed his tribute to the U.S. military while protesters assailed him for putting himself center stage on a holiday devoted to unity.

LAKE ARTHUR – After not having a single baseball player from the school sign a college letter of intent in over 20 years, Lake Arthur High School added its second in one season over the week when recently graduated third baseman Jarron Whitman inked to continue his career at Richland College in Dallas, Texas. Whitman, who was an All-District and All-Parish slugging infielder, sealed the deal after working out for Richland Head Coach Guy Simmons in Dallas on Monday.

Bronco Stars pound Iberia 18-8 in Super Regional

YOUNGSVILLE – The Big Maroon Train kept on rolling in its opening game of the Bronco Super Regional Tournament held at the Youngsville Sports Complex, as they destroyed the Iberia American All-Stars by a final of 18-8 in a run-rule stopped contest. Jennings used an 8-run bottom of the first inning to put things away, and elected to save their starting pitching for later in the long weekend by using Baylor Griffith for only an inning after jumping out to the huge advantage.

Cycling’s new generation ready to deliver at Tour de France

BRUSSELS (AP) — No matter who wins, this year’s Tour de France will see a changing of the guard.

And if the names of Wout Van Aert, Kasper Asgreen, Enric Mas or Caleb Ewan don’t ring a bell now, they might soon be on everybody’s lips.

In the absence of many stalwart riders who have stamped their mark on cycling’s marquee event in recent years, new faces will emerge this summer.

LOUISIANALAFAYETTE COACH TONY ROBICHAUX DIES AT 57

LAFAYETTE (AP) — Louisiana-Lafayette baseball coach Tony Robichaux, who earned nearly 1,200 career wins and led the Ragin’ Cajuns to a 2000 College World Series appearance, has died. He was 57.

Louisiana-Lafayette athletic department spokesman Patrick Crawford said family members notified school officials that Robichaux died Wednesday at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. Robichaux had been in the hospital after suffering a heart attack on June 23.

ASSIST Agency looking to expand services

As this year’s summer feeding and recreation program comes to an end, organizers are already making plans to help more children next year.

The ASSIST Agency is hoping to make arrangements to expand services to the children of Lake Arthur.

President of the ASSIST Agency’s Jeff Davis Parish Board of Directors Anthony Candler said he would like to help as many students as possible with the program.
