Terry James Clément passed away July 5, 2019, in his residence.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Terry James Clement, 85, of Evangeline was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Evangeline on Monday, July 8, 2019, at 11:30 a.m., with Father Paul LaFleur officiating.

A gathering of family and friends was held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Monday, July 8, 2019, from 9 a.m., with a Rosary recited at 10 a.m. and continuing until his Mass at 11:30 a.m.

Burial followed St. Joseph Cemetery.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts our family announces the passing of the first man we ever loved, our dad, Robert Richard, on July 4, 2019, at the age of 79.

A celebration of his life began on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings from 3-8 p.m. The public was invited to visit with family and share memories.

On Monday, July 8, 2019, there were final goodbyes beginning at noon until the time he was laid in his final resting place at Doucet Cemetery in Hathaway.

Leroy Joseph Hebert

Leroy Joseph Hebert, 87, of Welsh passed away at his home on July 4, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, with Rev. Whitney Miller and Rev. Alan Trouille officiating. Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2019, at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh, with a Vigil service held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume today, Tuesday, from 8 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Mausoleum.

Iran breaches key uranium enrichment limit in nuclear deal

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran on Monday began enriching uranium to 4.5 percent, just breaking the limit set by its nuclear deal with world powers, while it is still seeking a way for Europe to help it bypass U.S. sanctions amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington.

Wealthy financier charged with molesting dozens of girls

NEW YORK (AP) — Eleven years after letting Jeffrey Epstein off lightly with a secret deal, federal prosecutors took another run at putting the billionaire financier behind bars on sex charges, accusing him in an indictment unsealed Monday of abusing dozens of underage girls as young as 14.

The 66-year-old hedge fund manager who once socialized with some of the world’s most powerful people was charged with sex trafficking and conspiracy and could get up to 45 years in prison.

Report: Parish job growth on the rise

The latest employment figures show job growth in the parish is on the rise.

According to preliminary estimates released this week by the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC), in Jeff Davis Parish, the unemployment rate for May was listed at 3.9 percent, which represents a one-percent decrease over last year. The report is released each month and looks at non-seasonally adjusted unemployment for the state.

The unemployment rate for JDP in May 2018 was 4.7 percent, and 3.4 percent in April.

JDP landfill receives clean audit

The Jeff Davis Parish Landfill Commission received its annual audit for the previous fiscal year, with no findings of noncompliance noted in the entity’s financial statements.

The Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office (LLAO) recently released an independent auditor’s report on financial statements for the year ending Dec. 31, 2018.

The 51-page report was completed by certified public accountant J. Aaron Cooper, of Jennings.
