Cultural plaque dedicated at new Oil and Gas Park

A small crowd of Cajun people gathered at the Oil and Gas Museum Park Saturday morning for the unveiling of the French plaque by James Domengeaux of CODOFIL and Gilbert Bochet, Consul General of France.

Bochet spoke of the fact that many of the most highlyskilled technicians working around the world in the oil industry are of Louisiana-French origin.

He also spoke of his efforts to have Air France fly to New Orleans so that Louisianans could fly Air France to the North Sea or to various Arab oil-producing countries.

Fall looks like a second spring

We often associate spring with flowers, but take a look all around you. The trees are showing off their colors, and some are even blooming. Fall feels like a second springtime to me. There is a definite visual color change this time of year. Many plants are blooming and changing colors. One that I get very excited about is the flowering golden raintree in bloom right now. It’s gorgeous. It will make you do a double take when you see one.

USDA to collect final 2019 crop production, crop stocks data

BATON ROUGE – As the 2019 growing season officially comes to an end, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will contact producers nationwide to gather final year-end crop production numbers and the amount of grain and oilseed stored on their farms. At the same time, NASS will survey grain facility operators to determine year-end grain and oilseed stocks.

LDWF receives 11 whooping cranes at conservation area

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and partners took another step in re-establishing the state’s whooping crane population Tuesday (Nov. 12) when it received 11 juvenile whooping cranes.

The cranes were received Tuesday at the White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area (WLWCA) near Gueydan. Once the new arrivals are released into the wild they will bring the Louisiana population to nearly 80 cranes.

Dogs send No. 10 Carroll packing

MONROE – The No. 23-seeded Jennings Bulldogs took a business trip three hours up north Friday afternoon, and made sure they came back with an upset win over the No. 10-seeded Carroll Bulldogs in the bi-district round of the Class 3A Playoffs. With the win, Jennings improves to 6-5 and will now host the rival No.7-seeded Church Point Bears in a Regional Round clash at Jerry Simmons Stadium this coming Friday night.

‘Alexander the Great’ wears down Lake Arthur

LAKE ARTHUR – After a shootout in the first half that saw Lake Arthur take a 30-27 lead into the locker room, the Loreauville Tigers roared back behind the arm and legs of 3-star quarterback Zy Alexander to earn a 48-38 bi-district win. Alexander accounted for all seven Loreauville TD’s in the win. The 6’3 senior was 12-of-14 through the air for 257 yards and 3 TD’sw, while also rushing for 162 stripes on 11 totes and 4 scores. The No. 13-seeded Lake Arthur (LA) Tigers end their season with a 5-6 mark, while No. 20 Loreauville (LHS) improved to 7-4, and will advance to host No.

Myles Garrett, helmet a ‘weapon,’ banned for rest of season

CLEVELAND (AP) — Myles Garrett is done playing for the Cleveland Browns this season. The NFL isn’t saying when the star defensive end will play again.

He was suspended for at least the rest of the regular season and postseason — if the Browns qualify. The league discipline Friday came hours after Garrett swung an opponent’s helmet and used it “as a weapon” by striking Pittsburgh quarterback Mason Rudolph in the head.
