Tupper Museum invites public to help decorate Hall of Trees

The Christmas spirit is spreading across the Tupper Museum and public is invited to help decorate the Hall of Trees in preparation for the holidays.

“Please join us in putting the final glitz, glimmer and garland on our Jennings Hall of Trees,” said city event organizer Lin Fake. “We have been busy getting all of our decorations sorted out. We will begin decorating at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18.”

Fake said there would be an overwhelming number of trees to be set up by the staff on their own. Volunteers are needed to complete the extravagant winter wonderland.

City to demolish 12 properties

Tuesday the city council approved the demolition and cleanup of 12 properties deemed unsafe or falling down by the inspector’s office.

The properties are partially owned by the city and the parish. Those properties include a burned mobile home located at 722 Orange St., as well as structures located at 1010 S. Broadway St.; 118 S. Renshaw St.; 34 Spencer St.; 1010 S. Main St.; 124 West Willis St.; 113 West Wood St.; 516 Nichols St.; 219 S. Craig St.; 207 S. Craig St.; 406 S. Craig St. and 415 S. Craig St.

Shop with a Cop seeking donations

Each year the Jennings Police Association sponsors a holiday program meant to help make Christmas merry for less fortunate families of the community. With the high cost associated with monthly housing and utility bills, not everyone can afford to provide gifts under the tree.

The Shop with a Cop program collects donations from generous organizations, local businesses and individuals who are willing to help.

Two arrested for Halloween shooting

Two females were charged recently in a shooting incident that took place on Halloween.

Police Chief Danny Semmes announced Wednesday that on Oct. 31, officers responded to a residence on Granger Street in reference to a female being shot in the foot.

During interviews with witnesses, Semmes said investigators established Shinira Wiltz, 23, of Crowley, as the shooter in the incident and learned there was a disturbance over a Facebook post on Bryan Street between parties of the incident.

It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Dolores V. Schoultz announces her passing from this life on Nov. 12, 2019, at the age of 79.

Funeral services will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at 2 p.m.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home beginning Thursday, Nov. 14, from 4:30-8 p.m. Visitation will resume Friday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. until the time of her service at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow in Gatte Cemetery.

Patricia “Pat” Reviea Bowers, 78, of Beaumont, Texas, went to be with her Lord on Nov. 11, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at Woodland Baptist Church in Beaumont, with Reverend David Cross officiating. A graveside service and burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Welsh at 3 p.m. Friends are welcome to attend a small gathering afterwards. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 10 a.m. at Woodland Baptist Church in Beaumont. Born in Orange, Texas, on Nov. 21, 1940, Pat was the daughter of Arthur Reviea and Irma Sapp Reviea.

Arctic blast spreads shivers from Maine to Deep South

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — An arctic blast that sent shivers across the Midwest spread to the eastern U.S. on Wednesday, with bitter weather establishing new records from Mississippi to Maine.

Cold temperatures that stretched to the Gulf Coast followed a snowstorm that the National Weather Service said contributed to nearly 30% of the country being covered in snow as of Wednesday.
