It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Ludie S. Trahan announces her passing from this life on Dec. 17, 2020, at the age of 91.

Funeral services were held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, at 2 p.m., with Roy Platt officiating.

A gathering of family and friends was held at the funeral home Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, from 10 a.m. until the time of her service at 2 p.m.

Burial followed in Andrus Cove Cemetery.

BATON ROUGE -- LSU freshman quarterback-Max Johnson threw for 435 yards and accounted for five touchdowns, while freshman wide receiver Kayshon Boutte set an SEC record with 308 yards as LSU defeated Ole Miss in a second-half storm, 53-48.

Parish assistance offered through FSA

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Farm Service Agency (FSA) is now accepting applications for the Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) and Emergency Forest Restoration Program (EFRP) to address damages from Hurricane Laura until Feb. 8, 2021.

FSA is accepting ECP applications in these eligible parishes: Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Cameron, Catahoula, DeSoto, Evangeline, Franklin, Grant, Iberia, Jackson, Jeff Davis, Lincoln, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Rapides, Red River, Sabine, St. Landry, Union, Vernon, and Winn parishes.

SFM offers safety tips ahead of new year

As another fireworks sales season begins, the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) wants to encourage all Louisiana residents to not only be safe when using fireworks, but knowledgeable when buying them and prepared if considering attending a public fireworks display during this pandemic.

Ordinarily, the SFM would encourage families to choose to enjoy public fireworks displays over creating their own. However, many public fireworks displays are either being canceled or altered due to the concerns over COVID-19.

Patrons of the Jennings Carnegie Library can expect two things when they visit: books and cats. The cats are fed and cared for by the library staff. Sylvie, a friendly black-and-white cat, enjoys greeting library-goers at the front steps, and others make their home in the back of the building.

Sadly, early last week, library staff was shocked to find out one of their cats had been killed.

Avia Hatfield, who works at the library, discovered the cat outside, just over an hour after arriving for work.

Countdown to Christmas

Downtown Jennings was decked out in holiday cheer on Friday evening. Residents enjoyed shopping, food, music and the annual Christmas parade down Main Street.

 

Sun Belt football championship game canceled

(AP) - The Sun Belt Conference football championship game Saturday between No. 9 Coastal Carolina and No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette was canceled Thursday night because of a positive COVID-19 test within the Coastal Carolina program. An entire position group would have been unavailable to play for the unbeaten Chanticleers because of contact tracing, the conference said.
