Donating blood is a selfless act that saves lives. Blood donors may recognize the vital role they play in patient care, but many may wonder if it’s safe to donate blood during the pandemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is safe for anyone who is well to donate blood. That even goes for people who are social distancing due to COVID-19.

That confusion extends to a new survey of American attitudes done by Gallup and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The survey questioned 2,752 respondents and was conducted in mid-November.

MIDLAND – The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers (LA) may have been playing in the Midland Holiday Spectacular Wednesday night, but they were the ones that brought the fireworks to the party on the opening night. The Lady Tigers ran wild on their hosts and churned out a 74-35 win to move their overall mark up to 12-2. Senior Nicholls State University signee Deonna Brister had a spectacular night of her own, leading the Lady Tigers with a game-high 29 points. Lake Arthur placed a total of three in double figures, while also nailing down a total of eight 3-pointers in the contest.
CROWLEY – The Jennings Bulldogs were back to full strength on the hardwood Tuesday night, as quite a few gridiron Dogs joined the forces after their season ended last Friday night. The response was encouraging, as Jennings toppled a very good Crowley team by coming from behind late in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs upped their overall season record to 3-2 with a 56-51 win over the Gents.
MIDLAND – The Elton Indians stopped a 3-game losing skid Wednesday night, by blowing past the Kaplan Pirates 61-34 on the opening night of the Midland Holiday Spectacular. The Indians upped their overall season mark to 5-3 with the win over the Pirates. Elton used a balanced scoring attack in the win, placing three players in double figures.
WELSH — This year has been harder than most on local seniors in long-term care facilities. The threat of COVID-19 transmission has led many senior living homes to close their doors to visitors, and with the pandemic still raging, the holidays might be looking bleak. Thankfully, a group of elementary school friends have gotten together to bring a dose of holiday cheer to their local seniors.
