The energy and laughter at the Council on Aging (COA) Crew de Wise Mardi Gras Ball was infectious. The senior citizens of Jeff Davis Parish had a hand-clapping, foot-stomping good time. Many got out on the dance floor and showed everyone that you’re never too old to dance.

The Mardi Gras festivities in Jennings rolled on without a hitch over the weekend. Local Krewes rode throughout the area on Saturday showering residents with beads and other trinkets. Check out Wednesday’s edition for more pictures from the parade, as well as other carnival events hosted by the City of Jennings.

JENNINGS — It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share with you that Willie Ray LeJeune, 70, of Welsh has left his earthly life behind on Feb. 9, 2024. Willie was born in Lafayette on Nov. 27, 1953 to Iry Joseph LeJeune and Wilma Blanchard LeJeune Leger. Willie worked as a boat captain until his retirement. He loved being out on the water. Willie was a kind and generous man who was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joe Biden is supposed to know something about legislating. After all, he spent 36 years in the U.S. Senate. He must have learned something in those decades. And yet Biden is the driving force behind one of the biggest Capitol Hill fiascos in years: the rapidly imploding “deal” on the U.S.Mexico border, plus aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan. It was Biden who insisted that those disparate subjects be linked -- he threatened to veto any part that was passed alone -- which turned out to be a fatal mistake given the impossibility of a majority in Congress agreeing on any immigration-related topic. Failing to agree on immigration guaranteed failure on the other policies.
