State treasurer issues statement on proposed BCBS Louisiana sale

I come before you today as your new State Treasurer but perhaps more importantly as a practicing physician who has spent a lifetime as a family doctor in the city of Minden, Louisiana. Like thousands of other physicians across our state, I have spent the past few weeks studying the proposed sale of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana to an out-ofstate, for-profit company named Elevance.

Hounds fall short to Vinton in key 5-2A contest

WELSH — First place in district 5-2A was on the line this week when the Welsh Greyhounds hosted the Vinton Lions. The Lions jumped out to a 28-20 halftime lead, but Welsh would take a 45-44 lead to start the fourth period. Trailing 58-56 with a second to play, Welsh would attempt two free throws. The first free throw was good, but the second one bounced out, giving the Lions a 58-57 win.

Lady Hounds thump Vinton in season finale

WELSH — The Welsh Lady Greyhounds finished their season with a win over district opponent. The Lady Hounds led 9-4 after the first period then jumped out to a 22-8 halftime lead. Welsh would outscore Vinton 27 to 18 in the second half for their 49-26 district win.
