Robert“Saxy” Richard was awarded a Grammy for Best Regional Roots Music Album over the weekend for his contribution to the album “New Beginnings” with the band Buckweat Zydeco, Jr. and the Legendary IIs Sont Partis Band. The saxophonist said he was “all nerves” while waiting with his bandmates to hear if they were the big winners. “The only thing I remember is hearing the announcers say ‘new’,” he said. “Everyone jumped up and was screaming and I just blacked out.” From the moment his band’s name was called until the group walked out of the arena in Los Angeles, Richard said he was filled with emotion. During a break from press interviews and pictures, the musician said he shared the news with his biggest supporters – his former wife/best friend and three daughters.
