Death car in which bandits killed to be shown in city

The "Death Car" in which Clyde Barrow, once public enemy No. 1, and his sweetheart Bonnie Parker met their death, which ended the ghastly, bloody career of two of the United States' most notorious members of the gangsters world, will be on display at the McHugh Chevrolet company showroom Tuesday, February 8, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The bandit car will be brought to Jennings through the courtesy of the local Chevrolet dealer and will be exhibited free to the public.

Fortune Teller in Town

Madame Cecile, the celebrated fortune teller, is at the Briggs home and will remain only a short time. She will tell you from the cradle to the grave. She traces lost, stolen or buried property. Give her a call. Consultation, Ladies 50 cents, Gentlemen, $1.

Miss Julia Kerr wanted by mother

Mayor John Gamble is in receipt of a letter from Mrs. J.A. Kerr of Houston, Texas, whose address is corner of Meadow and Barons streets, in which she asks Mr. Gamble to kindly assist her in locating her daughter, Miss Julia Kerr.

The missing daughter was last heard from in Jennings, as the mother states. She has a share in an estate that is to be settled. She is now thirty years of age, and might have married since she left home in 1903.

Home paper wants Gueydan for governor

"Col. Henri L. Gueydan for Governor of Louisiana"

The Gueydan News and the Lake Arthur Herald have launched a boom to land, if possible, the Gueydan man in the gubernatorial chair.

The Lake Arthur paper says in this connection, "The democrats of Louisiana can do no better than to place the name of Henri L. Gueydan at the head of their next gubernatorial ticket, and his record in the state senate should be a recommendation that will secure his nomination"

Manouvrier sells local drug store

P.B. Manouvrier, veteran Jennings druggist, has sold Manouvrier's Drug Store at Main and Plaquemine.

The business was purchased by Amos Ardoin, druggist for the store for the past four years, and Charles Bull, owner of the Crescent Drug Store of Welsh.

The store will be known as Ardoin Crescent Drug Store.

Manouvrier opened the establishment in 1917 and sold it in 1947 to Eugene Beck and R.E. Shirley. The store was operated as the Jennings Drug Store until July 1951, when Mr. Manouvrier resumed operation.

No Halloween trouble because youths at game

Friday night will be Halloween, but thanks to the Lake Charles-Jennings football classic to be played that night, little vandalism is expected because the youth of the city will be en masse to the game.

But Halloween no longer gives Jennings officials any worry for the holiday of pranks, when witches and goblins were wont to dance and cavort of yore, was classed as fairy story stuff these past 10 years and no longer are fences torn down of outbuildings carried away.

MUST CUT YOUR GRASS AND WEEDS!

Property owners are hereby advised to cut the grass and weeds on their property at once. This growth makes a home for the mosquitoes, besides the other unsanitary effects.

‘You are not Hitler' screamed at judge

Richard Deutch, eccentric Jennings resident, spent 24 hours in the parish jail on orders from Judge Mark Pickrel when Deutch screamed at the jurist during open court here yesterday morning, "You're not Hitler yet." Deutch had come into the court room after the session had been opened and proceeded to the tables in front of the bench when he asked Judge Pickrel while he was hearing another casea if he had received the letter he had written him. The judge told Deutch he had not and then Deutch told the court he had better protect I.O.
