Levias lifts Tigers over Lions

LAKE ARTHUR - Senior tailback Torrell Levias returned from the injured list in grand fashion here Friday night, as he rushed for an amazing 389 yards on 25 carries and tied the school record with six touchdowns. His mighty efforts led the Tigers to a 57-38 Homecoming win over the Vinton Lions. Lake Arthur now sports a 2-2 season mark.

Levias wasted no time in showing he was completely back as on his very first touch of the pigskin, he rambled 66 yards to set the stage for the evening and hand the hosts a lead they would never relinquish.

Ilistened this weekend as the television announcers declared that presidential candidate Donald Trump was landing his 747 in Mobile, Ala.

They said the city’s name as if it was a Mo-BUL phone, or a Mo-BUL blood drive unit or a Mo-BUL military detachment. “Mo-BUL, Alabama,” they said.

I just shook my head.

Fair parade coupon available in JDN

In Sunday’s edition, it was printed that the $2 off coupon for wristbands for the Jeff Davis Parish Fair was available at Mighty Thomas Carnival’s website, however, the information the newspaper was provided was incorrect. The coupon will be printed in today’s and Thursday’s editions ofJennings Daily News and will be accepted in print or by taking a picture and presenting it at the ticket office.

Jennings Alive Fall Festival registration underway

The Jennings Alive Fall Festival has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26. Booth registration is now underway. The deadline to register is Tuesday, Oct. 22.

“Space are assigned on a firstcome, first-assigned basis,” said City Event Organizer Lin Fake. “As soon as your registration form and fee are received, you will be given a space.”

The fee for each 15’ X 15’ space is $40.

“For those who require power, the fee is $50,” said Fake. “Jeff Davis Arts Council members pay only $25.”

Jennings High FFA holds annual kickoff meeting

The Jennings High Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter held their annual kickoff meeting on Sept. 17. To start the meeting, Chapter President Jaci Miller introduced two special guests including Area III Vice-Presidents Trever Touchet and Sidney Walker.

The meeting continued with the invocation and a meal. After the meal, the chapter officers informed new members and guests of the many events the Chapter carries out.

The guests learned about fundraisers including the Chapter’s crawfish boil and meat stick sales.
