The Lake Arthur Tigers pulled to 2-2 on the season with a big 57-38 win over the Vinton Lions on Homecoming Friday night. The Tigers welcomed back running back Torrell Levias after missing the first three weeks to injury, and the senior responded with three rushing touchdowns in the game. Duo arrives for parade

"Don't be a dummy. Buckle up" Larry and Vince, the duo that made that phrase famous in television commercial spots, are in Jennings to promote driving awareness and safety belt use, said Jennings Fire Chief Tommy Deshotel.

"We've had an unusually large number of accidents in Jeff Davis Parish this year, with several injuries and fatalities because of the non-use of seat belts, so they are here to make people aware of the problem," said Deshotel.

I never met my great-grandfather, although I’ve seen pictures of him. The one I treasure most is a family photo, similar to those images on an Ancestry.com commercial, where he is sitting with his wife and older daughters. (The sons would arrive later.) He’s wearing a hat and a solemn expression, but you get the impression that he’s content with the life he’d created since emigrating from Italy a few years before.

Dogs get offensive in homecoming win

The Jennings Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season in a big way Friday night as they defeated the Cecilia Bulldogs by a final of 56-35 on Homecoming at Jerry Simmons Stadium. The Bulldog offense fired on all cylinders in the big win, as Jennings used four TD passes from quarterback Bub Willridge and four scores from Trevor Etienne to guide the attack. Etienne had two rushing touchdowns, two receiving and went over 100 yards in both categories in the win. Jacorien Palfrey also caught two secondhalf touchdowns from Willridge in the win.

MLB attendance drops in boom-bust era of big winners, losers

NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball has entered the Boom/Bust Era.

An unprecedented four teams won 100 games in the same season.

Four clubs lost in triple figures for only the second time.

Amid widespread claims the baseballs have changed, hitters shattered the home run record for the second time in three seasons. And sparked by batters going for the fences to beat suffocating shifts, strikeouts set a record for the 12th year in a row and outnumbered hits for the second straight season.
