VINTON – The Elton Indians ran into an offensive buzz saw Friday night when they squared off with the Vinton Lions in week two of high school football action. The Lions scored the first 36 points of the contest before giving up an Elton TD to claim a 36-6 victory at B.S.Walker Memorial Stadium. With the loss, Elton dropped to 0-2, while the Lions upped their overall mark to 1-1.

LAKE ARTHUR - A 37-yard field goal attempt by Lake Arthur senior Mason LeJeune was just barely wide left with 10 seconds to play, allowing the visiting DeQuincy Tigers to leave town with a nail-biting 26-25 win in a non-district battle. Lake Arthur falls to 1-1 with the heartbreaking loss.

BATON ROUGE -- No. 4-ranked LSU Football amassed 610 yards of total offense to become the 12th program in NCAA Division I history to win 800 games, as the Tigers defeated Northwestern State, 65-14, on Saturday in Tiger Stadium.

LSU (3-0), which passed for at least 300 yards for the fourth-straight game, scored 48 unanswered points to end the contest including a 41-0 second-half shutout.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — When Drew Brees went to the sideline holding his injured throwing hand, this NFC championship game rematch — and maybe this season’s Super Bowl race — dramatically changed in an instant.

Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams didn’t waste the opportunity created by Brees’ absence to beat the Saints again. And with no help from a no-call this time.

Goff passed for 283 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another score, and the Rams stopped New Orleans from scoring an offensive touchdown for the first time since 2016 during Los Angeles’ 27-9 victory Sunday.

Many incorporated areas have policies that prohibit pit bulls being housed within city limits. Unfortunately, the breed has received much negative attention not because of the breed itself, but because of many who have abused and exploited those dogs.

As we crept closer to the Texas state line via Interstate 10, the roadway began to look and feel like it had been part of a war zone.

“It’s like Louisiana gave up and decided Texas could take it from here,” I told my father, my passenger that day.

He then listed the names of several state and federal incumbents and candidates who are currently vying for office.

“They said if they win the election, they’re going to fix the roads and replace the I-10 bridge in Lake Charles,” Dad said.

EUNICE - The Jennings Bulldogs dropped a tough one on the road at rival Eunice High School Friday night by a final of 19-7. The Dogs were trailing 12-7 most of the second half, but the Cats used a late 62-yard TD run by Devin Richardson with 1:11 left to go in the contest to ice the game and preserve the victory.

Doucet, Bulldogs too much for Greyhounds

IOTA - The Iota Bulldogs used the hard-running of senior tailback Luke Doucet to turn back the Welsh Greyhounds by a 34-0 score here Thursday night in a non-district clash. Doucet finished with a game high 204 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns in the win that gives the Bulldogs a 2-0 mark for the season.

DeQuincy tops Tigers 26-25
