As temperatures decrease, homeowners are reminded to ensure that heating units are properly cleaned and maintained before colder temperatures arrive.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), seasonally-used heating units are more susceptible to collecting dust, debris and pet hair in the interworking of the unit, as well as over the pilot light and ignition than in colder regions where heaters are used more often. Built-up debris means an increased risk of fires and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.
